Seamless Pattern Design
In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to make a seamless pattern design with geometric repeating elements. The repeating style allows you to have more versatility with size and scale, from very small to large bold designs.
I’ll show you how to build this seamless pattern design step by step so you can add your own artistic flair to the basic pattern with color, textures, pattern, and gradients.
How to Use this Seamless Pattern
You can use this seamless pattern as a background pattern but it also works well with text effects, branding elements, and other design assets as well.
What is a seamless pattern design?
A seamless pattern is an object or group of objects arranged together in a way that allows it to be scaled and repeated with no visible beginning or end to the pattern. A repeating, seamless pattern has no seams, distinguishable lines or a definitive end, it simply repeats.
Part 1 – The basic shape
In the first section of this tutorial, we will create the basic shape of the repeat. This bullseye shape is made of several shapes that can be customized with individual patterns, colors, or gradients to infinite possibilities for creating a custom design based on this simple pattern.
Part 2 – Putting Together the repeat
The second step in putting together this seamless geometric style is to set up the pattern to repeat so that you can scale it large or small.
Part 3 – Saving and scaling the seamless pattern design
Finally, we will make the Photoshop pattern and scale it to our liking. In this step, you can also add texture overlays over top of the entire pattern for an even more finished look. I didn’t demonstrate adding the texture in the tutorial but it will add a nice touch. See the feature image for an example of this look.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON SOFTWARE AND TOOLS:
To get the same effect I achieved in some videos you will need a drawing tablet. You can get some inexpensive tablets. These are the two that I personally own, both are very good drawing tablets.

In this tutorial, I am using Photoshop CC 2021. You may not have the same configuration in your version of Photoshop. Things get moved around in updates. Some of the features in this version of Photoshop may not be available in older versions.
