I do my best to make every tutorial on this channel as easy as possible to follow for business owners and hobby designers.

I don’t have a specific category where I keep them all, but if you sign up for my newsletter, you get a direct link to all the freebies every month. We all get stuck sometimes and need a little inspiration. I showcase my favorite fonts, graphics, stock photos and more. Always keeping in mind that you’re running a business and licensing is an issue. Most of what I share in my showcases are free for commercial use and often has a free version. 

By the way, I am a sucker for typography, so I cruise the font circuit often. You can expect a lot of typography resources here.

Bad design can hurt your bottom line, and it deserves attention, but it doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Your most essential resource, time, should go to the things that are making you money in your business.

Planning Resources

I design planners because I’m an organizing and planning junkie. Sorry, we all have our faults. Sometimes I share my planning resources on the blog because I think running a business is hard enough but being disorganized and confused makes the stress level so much worse. Organization tools are my way of helping you be less stressed.

I know you’re not a designer, but if you’re going DIY, you at least need the basics. I try to cover the basics of design principles without going too far. You’re a busy business owner, I get it, just the basics of good design.

About Mercedes

I\’m Mercedes, and I own PrettyWebz Media. I also go by Mercy sometimes. Here\’s a bullet list of things you might be interested to know about me. 

  • I\’m married with two daughters (19 and 23) 
  • I co-parent three puppies with my youngest daughter, but they are my new fur babies. 
  • I spent most of my career as a contractor in a male-dominated field. Now, everything I do involves the color pink, gold or glitter. Maybe I\’ll get over this someday but probably not.  
  • I have an MBA and an MPA (Masters Degree in Public Administration), Government contracting was my day job before I decided to become a full-time designer. 
  • I am a self-taught designer, and I learn new things every day. I consider myself an always evolving design student.
  • I\’m addicted to online classes. It\’s a real problem. No, I mean it, this is a struggle. I go to school for fun. Udemy, Skillshare, Creative Live, Teachable, Lynda, I love all the things! 
  • I owned a Tshirt & Embroidery shop for several years, that\’s where I first learned how to design. I had no full-time employees so I was the designer and I ran the business. 
  • My first design software was Wilcom (embroidery software) I didn\’t even know what a vector was before that. Wilcom was my gateway to Illustrator. 
  • Photoshop has been my favorite pastime/hobby since I was in my early twenties but I went to business school instead of design school. Not sure what happened there \"\" I used to go through every tutorial PSDtuts put out. I added fairy wings and fantasy backgrounds to all of my daughter\’s pictures. I laugh when I look at them now.  
  • Since I went to business school and I was in the business world for most of my career, you\’re going to read a lot about design as it applies to business. Business is in my blood at this point. I can\’t help but talk about it. 
  • I believe everything should be designed around user experience because they\’re the reason we create anything.
