There’s no rule that says you’re brand has to be boring. Sparkle textures can envoke a feeling of fun playfulness, corporate or glamour. Sparkle can adapt to many different brand identities. Not to mention sparkle is hard to miss in any design.

When and Where to Use Sparkle in Branding

There is a time and a place for everything. Glitter, although it is a beautiful attention grabber, does not have a place in every design. In this post, I want to share with you nine design formats that lend well to shimmer and sparkle.

Although metallics and sparkle can be used in any industry for a subtle or dramatic effect I want to go over the most common industries you will see these textures. This is not an exclusive list of where glitter belongs and does not. I simply want to give you a visual idea of how sparkle is typically most at home.

Glitter, shimmer, sparkle, call it what you will but it’s an attention grabber. The whole purpose of marketing design is to grab attention, right? Well, that may be true, sparkle textures are also very tricky to get right. Too much will overwhelm the design, you have to hit the right balance for this kind of texture to have the desired impact on the design.

9 Places Where Sparkle Belongs in Your Branding

I’ll admit, if I had my way, everything would sparkle. However, too much of a good thing is not always a good thing. Here are a few places sparkling textures look and feel at home in marketing design and branding design.

Advertising

Call attention to your sale ads on social media with a little bit of glitter. Sparkle and glitter command attention, especially to the female audience. Try adding a little bit of glitz and glitter to your online advertising when trying to get the attention of a female audience or you want to denote an exciting event or offer.

Business cards and other printed material for business

Who could forget a business card with shiny foils and glitter embellishments? Your Logo

Using gold and other metallic textures in your logo add shimmer and intrigue to the most visible part of your brand. It goes without saying your logo must hold its own without adding the shimmer but it is also highly impactful in certain situations.

Industries with Sparkling Brands

Just to be clear, these are not the only industries that use glitter and shimmer in their branding but they are the most common. I have seen serious corporate brands incorporate gold and silver foil into the brand and it exudes elegance and sophistication so don’t get bogged down by the arts and crafts version of glitter and glitz. glitter and shimmer get labeled as cute and even childish style but glitter and shimmer can be very sophisticated and elegant if done properly.

The Beauty Industry

If you’re in the beauty industry, nails, hair, makeup, fashion, salons, and spas are all traditionally sparkling brands. The beauty industry, in general, has always traditionally used sparkle, shimmer, and glitter as a symbol of who they are and what they stand for. These are glamour brands at their best. If you’re in the beauty industry, consider adding glitter and glitz it to social media your website and even your business cards and advertising.

Fashion

Fashion is definitely a glamour brand and glitter and glitz are a huge part of fashion. Bring that sparkle to other parts of the brand as well. The logo, website and business cards are all perfect places to add a touch of sparkle.

Jewelry and Accessories

I can’t think of a better place to use glitter and glitz then with advertising sparkly jewelry and accessories this is the perfect marriage of shine and allure that comes from the sparkle of glitter. With that said, of course, the real star of the show is the sparkle of the jewelry.

There comes a time when too much shine can get overwhelming, yes it’s true, you can have too much glitter. But why not represent what you sell with gold and shimmer in situations where the product is not on display such as your letterhead, business cards and some areas of your website like the contact forms, buttons, header, and footer.

Night Clubs and Restaurant

Nightlife is often synonymous with glitter and glitz it adds a touch of excitement to your night club and restaurant graphics using glitter and shine to evoke a nostalgic feeling and longing for excitement and intrigue. A glittering shine is exciting. Maybe it reminds us of the flashing paparazzi bulbs or the old Hollywood sequins, either way, it works.

Crafting and Hobby

As a self-proclaimed artistic person ( not a great artist, but I love creating it) I happen to have a passion for glitter and metallic finishes. I love creating and I especially love taking things from so so to exciting with a splash of gold paint or a glitter mix. If you’re like me, you love glitter too!  Crafters and creatives love glitter, it’s a thing. Embrace the shimmer by adding a splash of it to your brand design too.
